Third Annual OscArts of Life Event to Benefit Artists with Disabilities

Are you red carpet ready? Time to prep that acceptance speech!

Cinephiles and dapper dressers will have a chance to win movie-themed prizes at The Arts of Life’s third annual Academy Awards Fundraiser at @North Bar in Wicker Park. Attendees can come casual and enjoy the broadcast awards show and festivities, but new this year is a contest for “Best Dressed” and “Best Movie-Themed Costume”. Winners will receive a custom-made trophy created by the artists of The Arts of Life, along with a $50 gift certificate to snag one-of-a-kind artwork. A red carpet will greet patrons at the OscArts of Life as the night builds to an original not-just-watching-the-awards event — complete with raffle items and a 50/50 ballot to guess the night's Oscar winners.

The evening, presented by The Arts of Life Associate Board, focuses not just around stunning fashion and film star poses, but also on fundraising for The Arts of Life, a 501(c)3 nonprofit arts program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Raffle items this year include two Second City gift cards (valued at $75 and $150), Odd Obsession video vouchers, Handlebar dinner certificates, Logan Theatre and Landmark Theatre movie tickets, a Walking Dead prize package, and more. Food items available include Dimo’s Pizza and Eli’s Cheesecake, along with old-fashioned theater snacks like popcorn and candy. Art and merchandise from The Arts of Life will also be available for sale.

Tickets can be bought in advance, or at the door, for $10 where attendees receive a ballot to pick who they think will pick up the gold statuette in Hollywood. $5 suggested donation also accepted at the door @North Bar, who has graciously agreed to donate a percentage of the night’s bar sales to The Arts of Life.

Details:

Admission: $10 ticket (includes ballot) or $5 suggested donation. Purchasing pre-sale tickets through Eventbrite is strongly recommended. The cost of admission goes towards the 50/50 split-the-pot Oscars ballot competition. The person with the most correct answers on their Oscar ballot will win 50% of the pot and the other 50% will go to The Arts of Life. If a tie in the Oscar ballot contest, monies will be split among the winners. All proceeds go directly to supporting The Arts of Life, a nonprofit arts program for adults with developmental disabilities.

###

The Arts of Life is people, with and without disabilities, creating an artistic culture to realize their full potential. Opened in 2000, The Arts of Life was the first program in Chicago to provide employment in the arts for adults with developmental disabilities. The studio serves as both an alternative day program and creative epicenter for its artists. Funded partly by the Department of Human Services, The Arts of Life also greatly depends on fundraising efforts and grants to sustain its program.
