2017 North Shore Awards Show Recap

On Saturday, July 8th, the North Shore studio held our annual Awards Show. Per the artists’ request, this year’s event was moved from winter to summer so we could enjoy a warm, breezy evening together. Our gallery was full of new work, featuring one piece from each of our current artists. Dinner was provided by Il Forno with support from LuAnn Hamel and artist Ted Hamel. Desserts were generously donated by Sweet Ali’s Bakery.  Our friends at Granite City Brewery brought us two delicious varieties of beer to enjoy.

For the month of June, curatorial committee member Jean Wilson (JW) selected Steve Harhaj (SH) to be featured as the Artist of the Month. Evanston Made at Bucephalus Bikes

Thank you, Bucephalus Bikes, for hosting our exhibition in conjunction with Evanston Made 2017! On June 3rd, The Arts of Life teamed up with other local artists and arts organizations to celebrate Evanston's vibrant art scene! At the reception art patrons dined on Sesame Noodles courtesy of Lulus in Evanston amid artwork from 30 different artists. There is still time to see the exhibit!

A new rotation of artwork is currently installed at Printwell in Glenview! The featured artwork was made by Marcelo Añon, Cole Fox, Laura Greenberg, David Jonaitis, Laura McManus, Jack O'Sullivan, and Quinn Zenner. Stop by Printwell during business hours to view the artwork and learn more about the printing services that they offer. Printwell is open Monday through Friday from 8:30am until 5pm. They are located at 1717 Chestnut Ave in Glenview.

68th Annual Art Fair

On July 30th and 31st, the North Shore studio joined dozens of other local artists at the Glenview Art League’s 68th annual Art Fair. Our artists and facilitators staffed The Arts of Life tent, packed with paintings, drawings, magnets, cards and comics.  As in past years, our bargain bins were a hit with shoppers. Who can say no to $10 art?

The Instrument Of My Hands recap

"Cuz I'm Fancy": A Photo Essay!

Sometimes it's nice to have an excuse to get dressed up and decked out. On Friday, June 3rd, we had an opportunity to do just that for the opening reception of our most recent exhibition, "Cuz I'm Fancy." Dozens of folks came out in their finest to check out the show. In addition, our drama group presented a new piece and we screened the documentary film "Life and Where I'm At," about the life and work of The Arts of Life founding aritsts Veronica Cuculich. How We Make It

On Friday, April 22nd, we will celebrate the life of our founding artist, Ronnie Cuculich, with the opening of our "How We Make It" show.  We will be showing a documentary called "Life and Where I'm At: The Life and Art of Ronnie Cuculich",  listening to some of her favorite musicians like Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, and Elvis Presley, and having a potluck dinner full of Ronnie's favorite foods.

In Search of Commonality Exhibition

Come to the artshow curated by Courtnety Sass and Tim Stone. There will be artwork by Arts of Life studio artists.

The show starts on February 5th, 6:00pm to 8:00pm. It will be up from February 5th to February 29th.

The exhibiton will be at the Park Art Center, 9 East Park, Boulevard Suite #1, Villa Park, IL 60181.

Open to the public.

7th Annual Chili Cook Off

This past Saturday the Arts of Life Chicago Studio hosted the 7th annual Chili Cook Off! There were several chilis entered in the competition this year, including chili made by our Horticuture Committee and our very own Christianne Masall! 

Later in the afternoon The Arts of Life Band performed some old favorites and they debuted a new song called "Snow Pizza" by Dave Kruger.

Donors, You Rock!

Yesterday, we were so happy to celebrate our donors and friends at the Chicago Studio!  

Dave G. brought delicious food, grown with the Horticulture Committee throughout the summer!  Everyone was chowing down!

Some folks joined yoga.  I led it with Dave K. because we know all the yoga poses, Downward Dog, Sun Salutation A and B.   Christianne taught printmaking!  Christina, Dave K. and Frances gave tours to show off the whole studio.  And Pablo was printing some tote bags.

Chicago Studio is Intrigued at the IMC

Last Friday, we drove all the way to Champaign-Urbana.  We kept pulling over along the way for rest stops, and Dave fell asleep.  Jean was rocking out the whole way!  We were going to see our art show at a gallery in the Independent Media Center.

North Shore Intern Spotlight: Sean Chapman

Sean Chapman recently completed his summer internship with the Arts of Life’s North Shore studio. He took on a challenging position of both assisting the artists in their creative practice while also executing a marketing campaign consistent of several solo exhibitions and band performances. Keep your eyes open as we invade several coffee houses this fall with exciting solo exhibtions; it is a result of the hard work of Sean and Arts Coordinator John Sharp.

On Sunday, February 16th, The Arts of Life held our annual Awards Show and Fundraiser at the Kenilworth Club. The event was a great success and thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we were able to exceed our fundraising goals and raised 100% of the art-making budget for the whole year!

Volunteer Spotlight: Rosalind Franklin University

On November 13, 2013, The Arts of Life North Shore Studio were pleased to welcome an interprofessional team of future healthcare providers from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science (RFUMS)  to the studio. They met us for an afternoon of activity and conversation about the heart. The heart-focused activities were a service-learning project designed by students in the RFUMS Interprofessional Teams and Culture in Healthcare Course.
