Chili Cook-Off Advice from Mike Marino

“I’m excited for the fun of the Chili Cook-off…but I’m not excited about the big clean we have to do for the studio before” says Artist Mike Marino. With The Arts of Life’s 9th Annual Charitable Chili Cook-Off less than two weeks away, Marketing Volunteer Tim Sonnefeldt sat down with chili pro and studio mainstay Mike Marino to ask him to share his thoughts on the upcoming event. 

For first time visitors, Mike has some advice, “The Chili Cook-Off is loud with all the people and with the music…and be careful because the chili is really hot!”

On Friday, October 6th the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art held the opening reception for its new show A is for Artist, curated by Scott Hunter. This exhibition brings together artwork by artists from The Arts of Life, as well as other similar arts organizations throughout Chicago as well as outside of the city.

October Artist of the Month: Alex Scott

In October, curatorial committee member, Kris Schenkel, selected for the honor of Artist of the Month his fellow artist, Alex Scott.  Alex has been a lifelong artist and maker.  Many of his pieces draw on imagery from his childhood.

However, after conversing with him it is apparent that he has a strong personal connection to the work he is making. “I think­ about what I want. What I think I like” is how he describes his process.
