North Shore Artist Spotlight: Phil Gazollo

It’s a rare privilege to watch a fellow artist come into their own. The North Shore’s Phil Gazollo has shown us all what that looks like this year as he’s transformed from creative dabbler to driven maker. On July 8th, he was honored at our annual Awards Show with the Most Improved Award in acknowledgement of the many strides he’s made.

Help Fill The Cupboards!

The North Shore Studio is partnering with the Glenview Chamber of Commerce by participating in a food drive to support the Northfield Township Food Pantry! A collection container for food donations will be on site at throughout the month of August.  Stop by during regular studio hours to deliver your non-perishable food donations. Thank you for helping us provide food for those in need within our local community!

North Shore Volunteer Spotlight: Jen & Felipe

The dynamic duo Jen Petrova and Felipe Sant'Anna have been working double duty since their start at the Arts of Life. Splitting their time between marketing and mentoring, Jen and Felipe have become a consistent presence at the North Shore. Originally from Chicago, both interns attend Claremont McKenna College a liberal arts school located 30 miles east of Los Angeles, California. The community has enjoyed their help on the floor as well as behind the scenes, It has been a pleasure to have them with us!

CHI Volunteer Spotlight: Tiffany Brinkman

The Chicago Studio was excited to welcome back long-time volunteer Tiffany Brinkman two days a week this spring for an internship course she is taking at DePaul University.  She first began volunteering at The Arts of Life two years ago through the DePaul Community Service Scholarship.

The Arts of Life Chicago Studio promotes peer curation through an ongoing Artist of the Month series. Evanston Made at Bucephalus Bikes

Thank you, Bucephalus Bikes, for hosting our exhibition in conjunction with Evanston Made 2017! On June 3rd, The Arts of Life teamed up with other local artists and arts organizations to celebrate Evanston's vibrant art scene! At the reception art patrons dined on Sesame Noodles courtesy of Lulus in Evanston amid artwork from 30 different artists. There is still time to see the exhibit!

Transition Planning Insights

After high school, young adults explore their passions and interests and make decisions about what they want to do and the kind of community they wish to be a part of. Young adults with disabilities are no different. They want to find opportunities where they can pursue meaningful work, develop their skills, and find acceptance and acknowledgement for what they contribute to their communities.
