Position: Realism Specialist  Or Abstract Specialist                              
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9:00-3:30; 2 days weekly (12-14 hrs weekly)
Location: Chicago Studio
 
Brief Overview
The Arts of Life is two professional art studios that support over sixty professional artists with intellectual disabilities in their individual art making careers. The Arts of Life is guided by Four Core Values, which encourage personal and professional development of their artists: Inspiring Artistic Expression, Building Community, Promoting Self-Respect, and Developing Independence.
 
The Arts of Life is seeking energetic and enthusiastic candidates who have a strong professional arts practice in realism or abstraction to join our team of teaching specialists working genre specialist.  Specialists strengthen and support our artists' individual creative practice at our Chicago location. The ideal candidate has a strong interest in teaching and/or community programming with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities as well as their own working arts practice.  
 
 
Required: 
Able to pass an Illinois background check
Valid Driver’s License
Able to access a computer and email
Bachelor’s degree in fine arts with an emphasis on painting, drawing or mixed media or a comparable thriving arts practice; Master’s degree a plus.
An active, at least 2 years, arts practice specializing in Realism or abstraction.

A high skill-set in the fundamentals of art
Ability to take initiative
Strong organizational and time management skills
Commitment to the process of art education as an avenue for growth and independence for adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to anticipate, understand and respond to the needs of the collective
Interest in working cooperatively
Ability to work effectively in teams, especially to set goals, problem solve, and innovate
