The Arts of Life Associate Board Presents: OscArts of Life
“Stars” and Cinephiles Shine at an Academy Award-winning Party @North Bar in Wicker Park on Feb. 26
The Oscar nominations have just come out, but Chicagoans don’t have to watch the Academy Awards at home alone. Instead, movie lovers can enjoy a cinematic, lively evening of pizza, cheesecake, candy, free popcorn, raffle items and “movie themed” costume fun on Sunday, February 26 @North Bar. Some of the raffle items offered this year for the third annual Oscar party benefit for The Arts of Life includes: Odd Obsession video vouchers, Handlebar dinner certificates, Logan Theatre and Landmark Theatre movie tickets, and more prizes to be announced. The hosts will also have a 50/50 ballot contest and be selling art from The Arts of Life.
Participants can come dressed up or dressed down — but for adventurous types, there is a “best dressed” movie-themed costume contest this year. You can be past-Oscar winners Bette Davis or Geena Davis, Darth Vader from Star Wars: Rogue One or Maschinenmensch the robot from Metropolis — or show up in James Dean jeans.
The Arts of Life Associate Board bet all their chips on Moonlight for their promotional poster inspiration, which received 8 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture alongside Arrival, Fences, Hacksaw Ridge, Hell or High Water, Hidden Figures, La La Land, Lion, and Manchester by the Sea. The Arts of Life will be presenting this event at @North Bar in Wicker Park, which is home to many of Chicago’s best comedy shows. @North Bar has graciously agreed to donate a percentage of the night’s earnings to The Arts of Life, a 501(c)3 nonprofit arts program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
When: Sunday, February 26, 2017, 6 -11 p.m. (Oscars start at 7:30 p.m.)
Where: @North Bar in Wicker Park, 1637 W North Ave, Chicago, IL 60622 (www.liveatnorthbar.com)
Tickets: oscarts2017.eventbrite.com (The first 20 people to buy an early-bird ticket online will receive an Oscar ballot and complimentary drink/beer ticket!)
Details: Admission: $10 ticket (includes ballot) or $5 suggested donation. Purchasing pre-sale tickets through Eventbrite is strongly recommended. The cost of admission goes towards the 50/50 split-the-pot Oscars ballot competition. The person with the most correct answers on their Oscar ballot will win 50% of the pot and the other 50% will go to The Arts of Life. If a tie in the Oscar ballot contest, monies will be split among the winners. All proceeds go directly to supporting The Arts of Life, a nonprofit arts program for adults with developmental disabilities. In addition to enjoying an evening of treats and eats, you will also support a valuable Chicago nonprofit!
The Arts of Life is people, with and without disabilities, creating an artistic culture to realize their full potential. Opened in 2000, The Arts of Life was the first program in Chicago to provide employment in the arts for adults with developmental disabilities. The studio serves as both an alternative day program and creative epicenter for its artists. Funded partly by the Department of Human Services, The Arts of Life also greatly depends on fundraising efforts and grants to sustain its program.
