Debbie Vasquez was born in 1969 and has been a member of the Arts of Life since 2002. A prolific artist with a strong sense of intent and command of her personal aesthetic, Vasquez has built a portfolio of work that is astonishing and mesmerizing.
Working with the simplest supplies, acrylic paint and magazine pages, she creates pieces that convey incredible depth and space. Within a single brush stroke, one can see rainbows of color, variations in texture, all seemingly effortless.
“When I make art, I use all kinds of things. My favorite are collages. I like to write on my art, especially my name. My family looks at my pictures – they say ‘That’s Debbie’s!’ My family is very important to me. I keep a scrapbook of family photos so I can show others about my family.”
In addition to family, Vasquez finds inspiration through music and dancing. In May of 2017, she was named “Artist of the Month.”
“I use a lot of colors, rainbows and candy canes. Art is cool! I have fun doing my art. It makes me happy. It makes me smile.”
