Debra Johnson was born in 1962 and joined the Arts of Life in August of 2019. Though new to the studio, Johnson is a focused and intentional maker. Her abstract works explore texture through mixing mediums and manipulating thick layers of paint.
“It’s beautiful. I want paint.”
Color also plays an important role in works inspired by nature. Johnson investigates monochromatic color schemes and high contrast color schemes with equal fervor. She manipulates paint with a wet-on-wet technique, enabling subtle shifts in hue to emerge.
“I paint all red.”
Johnson creates with confidence and certainty. When asked which artist she admires most, Johnson replied “Just me!” In this spirit, we eagerly anticipate the works that will flow from her hands.
