The Arts of Life Band

It is an ongoing collaborative project between disabled and non-disabled artists in the Chicago area, based out of the Arts of Life community of artists. The Arts of Life Band performs at local events and fundraisers, and does rock concerts at venues such as the Empty Bottle and the HideOut Inn. Chicago Studio Summer Festivals

We may be heading into the final stretch of summer, but the Chicago studio is still in the midst of preparing for some great summer festivals. To prepare we've been screenprinting t-shirts and tote bags, as well as designing and making buttons. Chicago studio artists Jean Wilson and Alex Scott created the new screenprint designs.

Kinda Weirdy: A New Album from The Arts of Life Band

On a Saturday afternoon at The Empty Bottle, Pantyhose was clearing the stage from their opening set.  The Arts of Life Band took the stage, as William Johnson played his keyboard and George Lawler set down a beat the drums.  Jake Gold and Taylor Hales tuned their guitar and bass, and singers, Whitney Allen and Dave Krueger approached the microphones.  “Alright everybody, it’s time to get down with our bad selves,” Dave shouted.  The first verse of his song “Snow Pizza”blared through the venue as the audience began to dance along.

7th Annual Chili Cook Off

This past Saturday the Arts of Life Chicago Studio hosted the 7th annual Chili Cook Off! There were several chilis entered in the competition this year, including chili made by our Horticuture Committee and our very own Christianne Masall! 

Later in the afternoon The Arts of Life Band performed some old favorites and they debuted a new song called "Snow Pizza" by Dave Kruger.

Donors, You Rock!

Yesterday, we were so happy to celebrate our donors and friends at the Chicago Studio!  

Dave G. brought delicious food, grown with the Horticulture Committee throughout the summer!  Everyone was chowing down!

Some folks joined yoga.  I led it with Dave K. because we know all the yoga poses, Downward Dog, Sun Salutation A and B.   Christianne taught printmaking!  Christina, Dave K. and Frances gave tours to show off the whole studio.  And Pablo was printing some tote bags.

North Shore Intern Spotlight: Sean Chapman

Sean Chapman recently completed his summer internship with the Arts of Life’s North Shore studio. He took on a challenging position of both assisting the artists in their creative practice while also executing a marketing campaign consistent of several solo exhibitions and band performances. Keep your eyes open as we invade several coffee houses this fall with exciting solo exhibtions; it is a result of the hard work of Sean and Arts Coordinator John Sharp.
