Band Assistant
Arts of Life is looking for a part-time Band Assistant to support the band(s) at one or both of our studios located in West Town (Chicago) and Glenview.
Hours: This position has flexible hours based on the needs of the band(s). It is allocated 32 hours a month at each studio. This position must be on site for band practice and all band performances.
- Chicago (Arts of Life Band) / Fridays 10-2
- North Shore (Van Go Go) / Tuesdays 10-2
Responsibilities:
Artists’ Supports
- At Band Practice
- Support artists in getting to and from practice.
- Provide all necessary supports during practice.
- At Performances
- Schedule and supervise all artists’ rides to and from venues.
- Provide all necessary supports during performances.
Business Supports
- Maintain the following as needed:
- Performing Rights Organization (currently using BMI) relationship
- Copyrights
- Publishing
- Trademarks
- Band member agreements
Band Supports
- Support the band in securing at least one performance per quarter.
- Act as the point person for venue relations.
- Arrange and confirm PA system and audio requirement.
- Communicate logistics to band members.
- Support all band members in setting up and breaking down performances.
- Document (photo and/or video) performances to be used on social media.
Production, Outreach and Promotion
- Support all band members as needed at any recording sessions.
- Schedule and supervise all artists’ rides to and from venues.
- Document (photo and/or video) recording session to be used on social media.
- Supervise the development of all band assets (CD’s, Records, merchandise).
- Implement Arts of Life branding guidelines and systems.
- Collaborate with the design team to produce band assets.
Press Kit
- Maintain an updated press kit.
- Release all press assets in a timely manner.
- Monitor inventory of all merchandise.
- Promote and sell band merchandise at band and AofL events.
- Supervise and facilitate the production of merchandise.
Communication
- Collaborate with communications team to build and maintain a fan base.
- Keep all band social media outlets up-to-date.
- Coordinate website updates related to the band, ensuring that new, consistent information is regularly posted and updated.
- Supervise the development and maintenance of the band’s blog posts.
Supervision
- Act as the main liaison between the band and the studio staff, working collaboratively with both to facilitate a strong working relationship.
- Schedule and facilitate monthly band meetings.
- Meet with Arts Coordinator monthly.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Behaviors:
- A working knowledge of being in a band.
- Experience working with people with intellectual & developmental disabilities.
- Experience with photography, video, and digital photography software a plus.
- Proficient using MAC platforms and Google docs.
- Working knowledge of social media platforms and website blog posts.
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license.
Hourly compensation: $12/hr
