Circle Contemporary is proud to present Inside/Outside, a group show guest-curated by artist Esther Ruiz alongside the Arts of Lifes curatorial committee.

Inside/Outside pairs artists from the Arts of Life roster with outside artists chosen by the curator. The exhibition focuses loosely on landscapes: interior, exterior, and imagined. As Covid-19 overtook the psyche of our collective existence and confined us socially, artists have been drawn to portray those spaces. Many of the featured artworks portray the great outdoors, a safe place to escape the virus, and our thoughts. Memories of days spent traveling and exploring are magnified by our separation from them. Some hazy from memory, others crisp with longing, and still others transformed by imagination and abstraction.

Esther Ruiz received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Rhodes College in 2011. She has exhibited nationally and internationally at various galleries with solo exhibitions at The Schneider Museum of Art in Oregon, Reynolds Gallery in Richmond, Virginia, yours mine & ours in New York, The Brooklyn Academy of Music, and Platform Baltimore. She has also been featured in numerous group exhibitions including the Torrance Art Museum in California, Deslave in Tijuana, Mexico, LVL3 in Chicago, Jacob’s LA, New Release Gallery, and Hollis Taggart among others. She has been featured in The Washington Post, Art News Magazine, Art F City and VICE. She was also a visiting lecturer at the School of Visual Arts, New York, Moore College of Art and Design, Philadelphia, and Santa Barbara City College among others. Ruiz was born in Houston, Texas, and currently lives and works in Los Angeles, California.
