Guy Conners at La Grange Art League

Guy Conners, Purple Orange Sky, 2020, Acrylic on canvas, 18″ x 24″

Guy Conners has a solo exhibit at La Grange Art League, currently on view through March 27th. Trees and Beaches features a series of nine landscape paintings, reflecting Conners’ recent focus on using a palette knife to apply thick layers of acrylic.

Guy was born in 1990 in Tokyo, Japan and moved to Chicago as a child. He has maintained a studio practice at Arts of Life since 2013. Outside of his work as a painter, he’s an avid runner.  He takes breaks from his practice to participate in marathons across the US.

Guy has an incredible talent for photorealism and is gifted with a keen sense of visual perception. Where other artists may be intimidated by the detail or scope of a reference photograph, he has the ability to break his subject down to the key qualities that convey depth, texture, and character. He skillfully builds up layers over time, yielding a rich and varied surface. He enjoys painting landscapes and still lifes, as well as working on commissioned pet portraits.

The La Grange Art League was founded in 1933 and has been at its current Calendar Avenue location since 1984. LGAL provides art classes, workshops, kids camps, and hosts events and demonstrations open to the local community. Through its scholarships and outreach programs, LGAL nurtures art participation in school-aged children and diverse communities that lack adequate art funding.
