Meet a North Shore Artist: Cole Fox

Artist Cole Fox joined The Arts of Life this past fall after completing high school.  Despite his youth, he arrived with visual art experience from a variety of settings, as well as a background in creative writing. He quickly set to work developing a professional creative practice in the studio. [[{“fid”:”7793″,”view_mode”:”default”,”fields”:{“format”:”default”,”field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]”:””,”field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]”:””},”type”:”media”,”attributes”:{“height”:366,”width”:652,”class”:”media-element file-default”}}]]Cole works abstractly, combining mediums to create multi-layered two-dimensional works. His expressionistic paintings and drawings are characterized by vibrant color use and instinctual mark making. His pieces almost always refer to the music or people he loves. His current work-in-progress is inspired by an image of the Beatles. Check out Cole’s completed works on his Arts of Life webpage.Cole’s favorite part of working at The Arts of Life is “being with so many nice and creative friends.” He’s had opportunities to collaborate with other artists through the studio’s weekly photography group. He also participates in yoga, hip hop dance, art critiques and studio meetings, all of which involve spending time being in community with others.[[{“fid”:”7794″,”view_mode”:”default”,”fields”:{“format”:”default”,”field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]”:””,”field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]”:””},”type”:”media”,”attributes”:{“height”:366,”width”:652,”class”:”media-element file-default”}}]] When he’s not making art, Cole runs the website go-somewhere.org, who’s mission involves “providing reliable reviews of disability-friendly restaurants and entertainment venues.” When asked about his work on go-somewhere.org, Cole said, “I really enjoy working on the website because I get to try lots of different restaurants. I also like advocating for people with disabilities.” Cole particularly enjoys spicy Indian food!Cole other passion is animals. His little dog Chili keeps him company and sleeps alongside him at night. If he weren’t working as an artist, Cole’s other ideal career would be working with animals in some capacity.Cole is a generally happy guy with a knack for mixed media and an affection for living things, human and animal alike. What’s the key to his sunny disposition?
