North Shore Meet an Artist: Pouya Bagherian

“Happy Thursday!” -Pouya BagherianNorth Shore artist Pouya Bagherian is always happy. Whether he’s making art, helping with responsibilities, or participating in yoga he does it with an energy to be admired. Even the artwork Pouya creates radiates vibrancy through its bright color palette and subject matter. There are so many things that he is passionate about! Keep reading to learn more about Pouya and the experiences that influence his artwork.What materials do you like to work with?Like painting. And some colored pencil. Markers. Happy faces and medium face that’s frowny. You know it! Yep! I think we better call it the end of the night and go home.We paint the canvas white with gesso. We let it dry. Then take a break, like walk. Then use oil pastels. Straight face and a frowny. A picture of Pouya. Picture of mom and dad. A car. Like a window in a church. Like every Monday and Thursday when Peter is here. We paint my room at home. That’s it. Just art at the studio. Like Arts of Life.What types of images inspire you to create work?I like a picture of Harry Potter. Like a picture of a Lexus. Looking at maps, how to travel. Maybe to Pittsburg. You take 76. You take Youngstown off of 80. It’s a good city. Stayed in the hotel, Holiday Inn with a jacuzzi.I am from Chicago. My family is from Iran. I visit them. Oh yeah, you get it! Travel to Massachusetts. Like the mountain with lights flashing. Like when you see the street. We take 90 East towards Boston and then New York City. Like going to New Hampshire. Like a smoke detector. Picture of a church. Like a white and black church. They have doors. I found it in the computer. Because this is my favorite. Because I like doing art making. It’s like a milk shake. Because I like strawberry with vanilla ice cream. Like colored pencil on brown pudding paper.Do you have other roles at the studio besides being art maker?I like to do exercise at 1:30, yoga. Mondays and Thursday with Peter, Rebecca and Laura McManus. I like to clean up and go home. I like to spend time with friends during lunch on Thursday, like Peter. Like to see Tom Thursday and Ann. We sat with Andrew. We talk about daily announcements.What do you like to do when you’re not at the studio?I like to be at home and listen to iPhone in bed. FM radio while wearing your pjs. Like to say hi to Jose the garbage man.I like to go to Fuddruckers for community lunch. I like working at the thrift store, the one on Green Bay. Winnetka Thrift Store with Val from Our Place. I go to Our Place. They make lunch and exercise, like walk the track in the Glen. Like Josh Stern, he goes too.I like working at Marshalls. I do luggage, pictures frames, and pet toys. You put them on the shelf like with a sticker. I like to get paycheck. We go shopping with mom and dad for dad’s birthday. I like to buy t-shirts, like Chicago Blackhawks. Go Blackhawks!I like basketball. I play at home with the basketball hoop. And baseball, at the Glen. We play for the home team. Like the Cubs.If you could not be an artist, what other job would you chose to do?Like to clean tables. I like to go the doctors.What is your favorite thing about The Arts of Life?I like to take bathroom break. I like to say goodbye. I like going home. I like to set up tables. That’s it for now. Time to go home.
