North Shore Meet an Artist: Sean Kremer

November 6, 2013 By vincent-uribe

Sean Kremer is a man of many faces. Quite literally he can be impersonating Woody from Toy Story one moment and Kermit the Frog the next. And it’s not only Sean’s impersonations that have us captivated, but his ability to accurately illustrate a variety of figures. See for yourself why Sean’s work is so fascinating by reading this interview and visiting the Glenview Public Library for an up-close look at the recent work he has created. What materials do you like to work with?I like pencils and colored pencils. And I like paper, large sheets of paper. I make pictures of people. I looks at books too. When I draw Disney characters I use my imagination.[[{“fid”:”4129″,”view_mode”:”default”,”fields”:{“format”:”default”,”field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]”:”Sean Kremer drawing”,”field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]”:”Meet Sean Kremer”},”type”:”media”,”attributes”:{“height”:366,”width”:652,”class”:”media-element file-default”}}]]How long have you been an artist? When I started to come here I made art. I do art at home too. That’s where I draw Disney. My favorite Disney characters to draw are Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and Simba from Lion King. Oh, and Gaston, the super bad guy with long hair from Beauty and the Beast. What inspires you to create art?I have lots of movies. I watch the movies while I draw. I know how they fight. Like Simba when he had his paw on Scar’s neck, like this [acts out Simba fighting Scar]. I like to draw characters looking happy. I only draw them that way ‘cause I said so. I show people my pictures and how I draw Disney characters. Like I know how to draw Woody with buttons on his shirt and a vest. Cowboys wear a vest with a sheriff’s badge and a black and brown cowboy hat. I don’t have a hat like that. I have a black cowboy hat, but I want a black and brown one like Woody.{C}{C}{C}{C}{C}[[{“fid”:”4130″,”view_mode”:”default”,”fields”:{“format”:”default”,”field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]”:”Sean and his drawing”,”field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]”:””},”type”:”media”,”attributes”:{“height”:366,”width”:652,”class”:”media-element file-default”}}]]Describe the projects you are currently working on.The Lady. I found the picture in a book. She has one hand out and I didn’t see the other hand. You can see her skin and her red dress. She has flowers on her shoulder that are part of her dress. Are there other roles at the studio you fill besides being an art maker?I like music. At the Variety Show I did some singing, like Kermit. I wouldn’t mind being in the band.At the Summer Carnival I was drawing peoples’ faces. Caricatures. I would like to do that again. People were surprised because I was drawing them and the pictures turned out good. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not at the studio?I go to the workshop Countryside. I’ve been there for a long time. I put buckles, screws, and springs on a conveyor belt. Then they go to my teacher who puts them in boxes. I like that job. Brian, Ken and Lucas are my friends there. We like each other and eat lunch together. We are T-Bird buddies. That’s what we call ourselves, the T-birds. I go out to eat when I have my birthday. Don Juan for tacos or Hackney’s to get onion rings, cheeseburgers or grilled cheese. Their food is tasty to me.[[{“fid”:”4131″,”view_mode”:”teaser”,”fields”:{“format”:”teaser”,”field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]”:”Sean Kremer”,”field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]”:””},”type”:”media”,”attributes”:{“class”:”media-element file-teaser”}}]]If you could not be an artist, what other job would you chose to do?I would work in an office building doing typewriter work. Or help people get better, like at the hospital. My mom works in the hospital. Sometimes I go with when I need my blood drawn. Or I want to be a fireman. Firemen save people in buildings. I like the gas masks and the gear. And the big ladder that they use for saving little boys at houses that are on fire. What’s your favorite thing about The Arts of Life?I like when we have the tables out and have lunch. I like it because it makes me bigger. I can stand high and not sit [laughs]. Then I’m taller than everyone. I like to talk to everybody. Russell and I talk about how he gets along with people in his house. He does nice things and what they tell him to.
