UPDATES TO OUR REMOTE PROGRAMMING:

After getting feedback from artists, surveying data on participation, and discussing our programs as a team, we have decided to make a change to the way we approach programming in our studios. Our hope is that these changes will increase the quality and improve engagement in the supplemental programming we offer.

Moving forward, Virtual Programming will no longer be scheduled on a bi-weekly basis with drop in sessions. Instead, we will continue to use Zoom as a tool for connecting across studios for AEP track programming. In addition, we will be focusing on recurring programming groups that will meet on a regular basis with regular facilitators, such as Poetry Group, Yoga, or Comics group.

You can expect this page to list times for these recurring programming groups that meet weekly. If you are a virtual-only artist at this time, please reach out to your case manager if you are interested in these sessions. We will also post information for special drop-in sessions when we have guest artists, curators, consultants, and other special guests. These sessions will be hosted as opportunities come up rather than on a weekly basis.

Additionally, we will be trying out a weekly lunch social session, from 11:30-12:30 on Tuesdays. Everyone is welcome to join these sessions. They will consist of unstructured social time to connect with your friends across studios or from home.

For three years and four months we have developed regular virtual programming sessions to artists at home, in the studio, and in the community. This has allowed us to transcend social barriers associated with COVID protective measures and stay connected as a community. It has allowed artists with different communication strengths to participate in the community in new ways. It has given artists an opportunity to take technology skills to a new level. It has even allowed us to stay connected with artists living out of state. We could not have done this without hundreds of volunteer hours, staff support, and grant funding that gave artists access to the technology we needed to make this happen. Thank you to everyone who has participated in this endeavor.

In Plain Language:

Arts of Life staff looked at the number of people who have joined our virtual sessions. We asked artists for feedback about virtual programming. We learned that artists like programming most when it is lead by the same facilitator with the same theme. To make programming better, we are going to be focusing on these groups instead of different programs every week.

This schedule will not be changing every week like it used to. We will be posting times for programming groups. If you are interested in a group, talk to your case manager. Sometimes we will still have guest artists or curators talk about their work. When that happens, it will be posted on this page.

If you like to use Zoom to socialize with people in the studio, we will be trying a lunch social over Zoom. This will be on Tuesdays from 11:30-12:30. Anyone can join lunch socials.

Thank you to everyone who has helped us stay connected during the pandemic over Zoom. We are thankful for programming staff and volunteers. We are also thankful for grant money that bought our Zoom TVs and speakers.
