THANK YOU Arts & Business Council

“The A&BC project was a unique opportunity and all-around fantastic experience.  We were matched with HR and Organizational Development experts who took the time to get to know us – our people, program, and mission.  They then provided us with tools and a roadmap for continued growth and success”. -Josh Shames, Executive Board Secretary We are excited to share that The Arts of Life has completed our first project with the Arts & Business Council’s (A&BC) Business Volunteers for the Arts (BVA) program.  Who’s is A&BC and what is BVA you ask?  Good questions! The mission of the Arts & Business Council of Chicago (A&BC) is to strengthen non-profit arts organizations by bringing resources and expertise to the sector through:             Consulting provided by highly qualified business professionals,             Training in all aspects of management and board functions,             Research in leading and emerging issues,             Relationships that bridge the arts community and businesses. Business Volunteers for the Arts (BVA) is A&BC’s longest-running service for Chicago-area arts organizations. The BVA service recruits and trains experienced business professionals as volunteers and then matches them to serve pro bono on consulting projects for small-to-medium sized nonprofit arts organizations throughout the Chicago area. A&BC’s BVA consultants are highly qualified professionals with a minimum of five years of managerial experience and a commitment to working closely with arts organizations on a project basis. Through the A&BC’s BVA program the studio received 87.5 hours of expertise Human Resources consulting valued at over $13,000.  A team of  six professionals supported the studio by mapping out a clear path for growth.  The team developed future positions, organizational charts, and a strong employee evaluation system.  “As the director of a small nonprofit, I often feel that I’m operating in a bubble because some of the decisions that need to be made fall solely on my role with the support of our board.  It was a great opportunity working on this project in collaboration with such a strong group of professionals.  I’m looking forward to continued BVA projects with A&BC.  It’s a great partnership to leverage because of the level of support we receive for the money.  We didn’t have taken funds away from our artists and their practice and the services were excellent”.  -Denny Fisher, Founder & Executive Director
