Bug Fest

Arts of Life – Chicago
August 3, 2012

The Kinzie Corridor Community Association is happy to present Bug Fest, a tribute in the form of paintings, drawings, photography, performance and music to all the creepy crawly creatures of the earth. This one time only show takes place August 3rd-4th at the Arts of Life Studio located at 2010 West Carroll Ave. Chicago. There is no admission required on Friday and a $10-15 entry on Saturday night; however donations are accepted and all artwork is for sale.

Kicking the fest off, and taking the stage on Friday night, is Spider to the Fly, Andy Ortmann, and an 8 pm Open Mic session for those that feel artistically inclined. Spider to the Fly is a local independent collaboration of music, fashion, and the visual arts that provides avant-elelctronic dance music. Up next is, Andy Ortmann, a Transgressive Sound/Visual/Conceptual Artist who has been making eclectic electronic experimental music since 1990. The fest continues Saturday night with El Circo Cheapo, an amazing circus show like nothing that has ever been seen. An ever-changing cast of some of the world’s most talented circus performers, as well as other performance artists, ensures no two shows are ever the same. Circus Night tickets are available at elchircocheapo.com for a $10-$15 entry fee for a 7 pm and 10 pm performance.

Opening and closing each show that evening with a one-of-a-kind performance will the DayMoths, a two-piece pop-rock ensemble from Minneapolis. This night is sure to provide an array of both musical and artistic entertainment for all. Throughout Bug Fest the Kinzie Corridor gallery will be open for viewing as well as the purchasing of all work. This show features works by artists Christopher Iith, Debbie Vasquez, Jean Wilson, Jim Newberry, Jon Walz, Laura Krause, Maike van Wijk, Marta Sytniewski, and Mike Kaskel. All work pays tribute to the bugs that inhabit the earth that we live in, and the beauty that they provide to the world around us.
