About
b.1970
It seems that Alicia Porter has been an artist her entire life.
“I don’t think I’ve ever stopped [making art] since I was a child… I don’t make art everyday, but I think about art everyday.”
Her love for oil painting flourished during her time at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, where she earned a BFA in Painting and Drawing (1998). Since joining the Arts of the Life in 2013, Porter’s work has been featured in studio merchandise and galleries. Most recently, Porter was featured in the “Something Else” exhibition, in September of 2017.
An avid sketcher, much of Porter’s work is inspired by studies she’s done on her trips around the world. Her enormous sketchbooks are full of motifs and designs, which she carefully transfers onto her vibrant gauche backgrounds. The finished product reflects an intimate understanding of her preferred mediums and a keen eye for intense color.
“I love to travel! There are a few other places I haven’t been, but I’ve conquered a third of the world. All these places are new and exciting. On trips, I like to draw in my sketchbook. At some places, I’ll draw the mountains or buildings. I go to museums and shows, too.”
