Sketchbook Swap Exhibition @ Jupiter Outpost Opening Reception: Thursday, October 24th, 2014 5:00-8:00pm 1139 W Fulton Market, Chicago, IL 60607 On view October through November
The Arts of Life is proud to present the second edition of their annual Sketchbook Swap show. In an effort to build community through art, The Arts of Life artists teamed up for their Sketchbook Swap project. Each of the Chicago artists paired up with an artist from the North Shore Studio and sent a sketchbook back and forth, sharing their work and stories of art making.
See and learn more about the process of mutual inspiration by visiting the traveling Sketchbook Swap Exhibition presented at Jupiter Outpost. The body of work will be on display free to the public from October through the end of November. An opening reception will take place Friday October 24th from 5:00 to 8:00pm.
The Sketchbook Swap show is presented in conjunction with the 2014 Chicago Artists Month (CAM), the 18th annual celebration of Chicago’s vibrant art community organized by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events. The Arts of Life is happy to bring together this year’s theme Crossing Borders. The Sketchbook Swap project set forth to build and foster relationships between our two studio communities crossing the borders through art making. After picking sketchbook “pen pals” at random, the artists worked for several weeks, the participants sent these sketchbooks back and forth, corresponding through their art making while creating original sketches in a variety of mediums. After several weeks of swapping, each artist created a final piece of artwork inspired by their partner, the sketches created, and the overall experience.
The culmination of the Sketchbook Swap will be the group exhibition of each participant’s final project as well as the sketchbooks that brought our community together. We invite you to come and enjoy this celebration of community and exploration of relationship building through art making. For more info contact Vincent Uribe at [email protected]
