Who is Van Go Go? Hello there. We are Van Go Go, a collaborative of musicians with and without developmental disabilities. Every week for the past two years, we have met to write and rehearse songs that are infused with a warm blend of reggae, roots rock, and funk. Our lyrical hooks and dance grooves are bound to stick in your frontal lobe making your feet do things you thought only James Brown was capable of. Coming from a community of musicians that is often marginalized rather than embraced for their unique contributions, these songs seek to deliver a sense of empowerment and enrichment to the human experience.
Drummer and singer Nikole Heusman says it best: “Our music makes me feel like I can do something that frees me from my disability. Our music is for your heart and for your soul.” Together we have written over a dozen original songs such as Monster Man, Bad Girls, Time Machine, and Danger to Society (Sometimes). We have the music. We have the ambition. Now all we need is YOU!
How can you help? We really need your support to make this happen. We are extremely proud and fortunate to have volunteers and musicians work with our band, however our needs go beyond just time and diligence. We have set our eyes and hearts on one of Chicago’s premier recording studios and they are eager to begin working with us. To make this happen, we need to raise $5,000 in 30 days so we can fully record, produce, mix, master, and release our album. With your support, we anticipate a late summer to early fall release of the album.
Just take it from singer and songwriter Russell Copenharve: “It’s important to us, so we can stick together. We need money to pay for everything.” We are asking you to join us in this unforgettable experience. Any donation, no matter how large or small, makes a difference. Your ongoing support makes our success possible and now we need your help to move forward.
You can pledge your support today by visiting our Indiegogo campaign page at https://igg.me/at/vangogo. And of course, in proper Indiegogo style, we have some fantastic perks as our way of saying “thank you” for your support. What if we don’t reach our goal? While we are hopeful to reach our goal, every dollar donated will be put towards taking this project as far as it can go. Whatever the outcome, it will be a promising experience for our band to live out the dream of recording our first studio album. The best part of it? You helped make it happen!
