Art Persona: Building Celebratory Worlds
Each artist has a strong art persona that helps to create their own world (or universe!). I have been thinking about the use of the word celebratory as both being about celebrities as well as celebration and joy. Our visiting artist, Antonio Adams (Cincinnati, OH) who is also known as Art Thing Kingdom Master [of the Universe] typically works with portraying celebrities in many different mediums. For this show, he is going way back to the “first” celebrities, Adam and Eve as well as God. Aria Carter A.K.A. Ariée the Godmother of Art and Fashion, is developing a fashion brand and dreaming about how her work will look on the catwalk and in front of crowds of people. Her logo is heavily spotlighted and even shows up on a stylish face mask, which is very relevant to our current situation with Covid-19. Becky Kubica’s drawings each have a story behind them, featuring an amazing colorful disco-like dance hall with people dancing, another has a spy in someone's bedroom, and the last one a doctor, which sounds like a recipe for a soap opera to me! Alex Scott’s work decenters humans as the only ones having interesting things going on with them, by showing his world of the lives of animals, fruits, clouds, and even shapes having what looks to be a grand old time.
