The Chicago Studio Welcomes Our Newest Genre Specialist

Through the summer, there were several staffing changes at the Chicago Studio.  As a result, we opened up a full-time Visual Arts Specialist role.  Caleb Sheridan, formerly an artist mentor in the studio, accepted the role and began training at the beginning of November.  He has a background in print media, painting and sculpture.

Caleb holds a BFA from The University of Montana and MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.  With an active interdisciplinary practice, he brings a rich variety of skills and creative experience to his studio work, and he hopes to bring that same approach to the Arts of Life.  This is part of what initially engaged him as a volunteer.  As a staff member, he is thrilled to increase his level of engagement. “I’m so excited to be immersed in such a rich community of artists!  I’m looking forward to building deeper relationships and assisting in the development of everyone’s practices.”

Caleb finds inspiration for his studio practice by engaging with found objects.  He investigates managing, negotiating, and dealing with systems, the futility and untapped potential of being an underdog, while floating through the various meanings of value.  His practice is peripatetic, in the sense that many of his works are initiated by chance encounters with found objects during walks about the city.

Outside of his work at Arts of Life and visual arts practice, Caleb buys and sells vintage comic books.  He enjoys the process of discovery and unearthing unique and rare books for his clientele. He also enjoys listening to vinyl records and working from his art studio at home.

We are so excited to learn from his varied creative experiences and to support him in continuing to develop as a Visual Arts Specialist in his time at the studio!
