How would you describe a superhero?  Are they invincible?  Can they summon the elements of nature using only their mind?  Can they shapeshift?  Do they commune with the animals?  Can they fly?  From the time of the ancients we have given representation to the unexplainable by attributing divine and magical qualities to exceptional humans.  While our most available present day connections to those mythological entities may be big budget films, comic books, and graphic novels in which these beings help the downtrodden and save people.  There is another side.  Superheroes are Real.  They live among us…sometimes they are Us.  They do what is right at any cost, and they do what we are scared to do even in the face of insurmountable odds.  Sometimes circumstances create a superhero.  Mostly, we need superheroes because they excite us with the blueprint for our own liberation. They are symbols of the fact that we can overcome ourselves and our fears.  We can fight evil.  We can rail against those power structures that stand in the way of a more just and equitable world.  Everyday Heroes presents the various ways that these guardians become symbols embodying the personal mythologies of those who love them.
